Sunday mornings are a great opportunity to worship and learn at St. David’s. Sunday school is offered for age 3 through adults and takes place between the 9:00 and 11:15 services. Classes begin at 10:20 (except for Godly Play, which starts at 10:15) and run until 11:05. Nursery is available for children younger than age 3.
Children age 3 through third grade attend Godly Play. Godly Play teaches children the art of using Christian language - parable, sacred story, silence and liturgical action - helping them become more fully aware of the mystery of God’s presence in their lives. It is not just about learning lessons or keeping children entertained. It is about locating each lesson in the whole system of Christian language and involving the creative process to discover the depths of meaning in them. Godly Play respects the innate spirituality of children and encourages curiosity and imagination in experiencing the mystery and joy of God. It is based on long established, tried and tested approaches. Godly Play encourages participants to make meaning for themselves by inviting them into stories and providing the opportunity for them to connect the stories with their personal experience. Godly Play is a way of preparing children to join in the worship and life of their congregations as they develop a deeper understanding of stories, symbols and rites. Children in grades four and five attend a separate "Tweens" class. This class is a bridge between Godly Play and the classes for youth.
Youth in middle school and high school are divided into separate classes designed to address the unique needs of these two age groups.
Confirmation classes for high school students are offered every two years on Sunday afternoons, usually twice a month for approximately six months.

Episcopal Youth Community
At St. David’s we have a vibrant youth program dedicated to the spiritual growth and Christian leadership development of young people. The youth group not only develops a community of young people within our church, we actively participate in programs within the Diocese of Southern Virginia and the wider national Episcopal Church. During the school year, there are opportunities to get to know other youth at St. David’s through regular meetings and special events including Youth Sunday in September, the Progressive Dinner in December, Spring Fest in May and the Youth Lock-In in June when we welcome rising sixth graders into the EYC. In addition, we participate in outreach through CARITAS, the men’s feeding program, Thanksgiving bags, Vacation Bible School and Christmas families. Although we take a hiatus from Sunday school during the summer, the youth continue to meet through visits to a local amusement park, a lake house weekend, an event with other Episcopal youth in the Richmond area and August planning meetings for Youth Sunday. St. David’s youth actively participate in events hosted by the Diocese of Southern Virginia which include October Weekend, Blackstone Weekend each spring and Happening (a renewal experience) for high school age youth. For middle school students we participate in November and April weekends where middle school youth from throughout the Diocese come together for fun and formation. We have had several youth on the Diocesan youth planning board and have had three youth attend the triennial Episcopal Youth Event, which brings together Episcopal youth from all over the world for worship and community.
