“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven…” Ecclesiastes 3:1
Ecclesiastes, the Latin version of the Hebrew pen name “Qohelet,”is the author
of one of the poetic and wisdom books of the Holy Bible.
Usually translated as “the Teacher,” or “the Preacher” he goes through
a litany of the seasons of life which are well known even to those who
do not claim a deep biblical knowledge: “…a time of be born, a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck what has been planted…”
and so on through the many repetitions of life.
“For everything there is a season…” We realize that even during this hot, muggy summer, this season provides time for vacations, for kicking back and gearing down, and for pursuing some much needed leisure time to relieve the pressures of daily life.
For the people of God at St. David’s, this summer season also provides:
- A time for preparation: for supporting your vestry ministry teams as they plan for the various programs that will kick off in the fall.
- A time for fellowship: taking advantage of intergenerational gatherings around a film, ice cream socials, or an old fashioned hymn sing.
- A time for pastoral care: for catching up with folks who have experienced hard times, are shut-in, or have been missing from our community worship.
- A time for worship: both in the context of the regular three Sunday services and the combined services at the end of each of the summer months, we share in the Lord’s Supper and are strengthened for our service in the world.
- A time for hospitality: for inviting our friends and neighbors to share our fellowship and worship and not let the summer slip by without reaching out.
As we go through this summer season and look forward to the fall, you have a
vital role to play in the life and future of St. David’s. May this season
be one of healing, building up, laughter, dancing, and loving.
May you find your spiritual journey to be one shared by other members
of the St. David’s parish family. May this season be a time in which
you can “…be at peace with yourselves and with your world.”
